A veteran of jazz, world beat, reggae, ska, latin, and funk bands across the country, Jade Synstelien is a guitarist, composer, arranger, and band leader residing in New York City. He has lived and traveled extensively throughout the United States, working as both a studio and performing musician since the age of fifteen.
As a jazz artist, Jade has spent over two decades performing with groups ranging from duos and trios to full-scale traditional big bands, all the while amassing a book of original compositions that sets him apart from his musical peers. Synstelien’s works composed for his storied eleven-piece Fat Cat Big Band display an uncanny sense for traditional arranging and songwriting, but speak with a musical voice that is entirely unique—creating a listening experience that is at once pleasurably accessible and deeply studied.
Jade is also a skilled interpreter of classical music for solo guitar and has transcribed several works previously without comparable publications, including works by Bach and Handel. His publication of Bach’s 15 Two-Part Inventions for Guitar is the most accurate transcription of these critical studies available for the instrument and have been lauded by professional guitarists in multiple genres.
